Ah, bank holidays. Don’t you just love them? May bank holiday last weekend was a particularly hot and sunny one and I got to spend it at the wonderful Hotel Cromwell in Old Stevenage. Here is what I got up to!
*Disclaimer: This was a complimentary stay that was kindly given to me by Hotel Cromwell, but my opinions are genuine and honest and it does not affect my point of view.*
All About Hotel Cromwell: A Piece Of British History
Hotel Cromwell is the former farmhouse home of John Thurloe, secretary to Oliver Cromwell (25 April 1599 – 3 September 1658) . Cool right? If you are wondering who Oliver Cromwell was, he was an English military and political leader. He served as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1653 until his death, acting simultaneously as head of state and head of government of the new republic. So you could say he was pretty important!
The lovely new owners of Hotel Cromwell have recently done some refurbishments and now you can expect to see stylish, modern decor with that special touch of character. If you are looking for a relaxing break for business or leisure, this may be the perfect hotel for you. Conveniently located close to the A1, London’s Kings Cross Station is only a 27-minute train ride away from Stevenage Station, which is just 1 mile from the hotel!
Amenities: What Hotel Cromwell Can Offer
Due to the recent refurbishments, Hotel Cromwell is a fantastic place if you’re looking for an event venue for your next party, to plan a business meeting or even have a wedding! They even offer afternoon tea, which I believe is an essential for any great hotel. In addition to this, they have an incredible brasserie called Rump And Wade next door, so they even have catering facilities. You can pop in there for dinner also as it is open to the public! I got to sample the vegan menu for myself and it is by far one of the best vegan menus I have ever had.
Rump And Wade
As a vegan blogger, you may be wondering why I am at a place called Rump and Wade, however, this brasserie has a brilliant variety of vegan options to choose from! Usually when you go to a restaurant, the only options available to you as a vegan are plain pasta or chips, but this place is a hidden gem for us vegans as the menu is delicious and full of variety! If you stay at the hotel, you also have the option to have breakfast here (or even breakfast in bed!) and I couldn’t recommend it enough, its absolutely delicious! Here is what I had for dinner:
The staff and service at the Rump and Wade are a real credit to the hotel. They were all friendly, personable and helpful and it is one of the best dining experiences I have had purely because everything was done to perfection! This is one of the main things I noticed which really stood out for me about this hotel. The staff appear to really care about their customers and they go out of their way to help. I would feel very comfortable organising important events and meetings with Hotel Cromwell due to the excellent service.
Upon opening the door, I was mesmerized by the beautiful decor and colours of this spacious en-suite double room. Anyone who knows me knows that I love vintage and this room had a real elegant, vintage charm to it. The blue colours made it look very classy and modern whilst still retaining the history of the building.
The bed was very comfortable and spacious for a double. The chairs and coffee table were a lovely addition and not something you normally would get in a double room. Tea and coffee facilities were provided in the room on a convenient tray.
There is plenty of storage so if you are staying for business then you will have no issues with work space and storage. The mirror is greatly placed for doing your makeup as well!
Bathrooms often have similar plain decorations, which is why I loved this one so much. I loved the dark blue tiles, vintage patterned flooring and grand mirror which were such a charming change to standard beige walls and plain tiles. The water heated up instantly which was great as often in large hotels I have had issues with water not being very hot.
I had the perfect stay at Hotel Cromwell and a fantastic bank holiday weekend. As a perfectionist, it was great to see the detail that was payed to the little things at the hotel and it truly is a gem right in the heart of old Stevenage town. So, it is safe to say I highly recommend it and urge you to go and visit!
Thank you so much to Hotel Cromwell for inviting me to stay. I loved every minute! Furthermore, for more information about Hotel Cromwell and The Rump And Wade, you can follow the links below.
